Project Blog

As I often work with different projects I have to do a lot of research which ends in lots of new informations that have to be stored somewhere. Because of that I started this project blog where I will collect links and chunks of text that helped me with my projects.

Porting LEON Risc processor 12. January 2005
Gaisler developed an interesting RISC processor called LEON, that is even Sparc V8 compatible. It contains an FPU, cache, IRQ-controller, AHB contoller and many more usefull features. Now I try to adapt the sources to make it work on the XFBoard (see student thesis of Samuel Nobs about the prototyping board and Herbert Walders Webpage for details about the board)

Free SQL DB System 11. July 2004
Casually I'm working on a project with which I will hopefully earn some money one day. It should use some kind of free, simple and small SQL database. So far that was Ocelot (www.ocelot.ca). But I don't really like it because it is written in assembler and it only stores the DB in a root directory of a drive. Now I finally found a nice DB called Sqlite (www.sqlite.org). for which you can even find Delphi component. I guess I can stop my TxtSQLDB project ;-)

L4Ka Microkernel architecture 19. June 2004
While doing research in the field of micro kernel architectures for my own overly ambitious OS project I found a promising concept called L4. A very interesting implementation is called L4Ka and was done at the university of Karlsruhe Germany. See their website l4ka.org for informations at first hand. I'll definitly have to study L4 in more details and see what I can use for my own project.

Detecting memory leaks in Delphi 31. May 2004
Memory leaks can be a quite subtle source of troubles and a good tool for detecting them is therefore very important. Luckily there also exists such a thing for Delphi called MemCheck thanks to Vincent Mahon. See here for details: v.mahon.free.fr/pro/freeware/memcheck/

Cross-plattform ad blocking 22. May 2004
As I got annoyed by all the ads showing up in my browser and IM I started to look for a cheap solution to block them. A pretty simple solution for most of the common OSes is to adapt your hosts file and simply deny access to known ad servers. For details see one of the following links: pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/, www.accs-net.com/hosts/, www.everythingisnt.com/hosts.html, someonewhocares.org/hosts/
